Why sound comes first
If people cannot hear a speaker clearly, they stop watching, however good the video looks.
Clean sound also makes captions accurate and the edit faster.
Recording interviews
A boom microphone
Just out of frame, it is the main sound source, run by our audio engineer.
A clip-on backup
A small clip-on microphone on each speaker records at the same time as a backup.
Headphones on throughout
So we hear problems as they happen and simply ask again.
Noisy workplaces and events
Factories, open-plan offices and venues are rarely quiet. We pick the quietest room for interviews, ask for air conditioning or music to be paused while we record where possible, and pause for planes, trucks and announcements.
In the edit
We clean up background noise, balance voices, set music under speech and mix to consistent levels for your website and social platforms.
Example: events
See our event video production page for how we capture speeches and interviews at busy events.
Event video productionWhat it costs
Sound recording and mixing are part of every shoot and edit.
What we need from you
A quiet room for interviews, away from phones and foot traffic
Someone who can pause air conditioning, music or announcements
For events, a contact for the venue's AV team
Notice of noisy work, such as machinery or deliveries, during the shoot
